Starbucks arrives in Milano and changes the Duomo’s flowerbeds look

AiuolestarbcksmilanoStarbucks won the sponsorship’s announcement proposed by Milano’s district to renew Duomo’s flowerbeds. The company will soon open its first shop right in the Lombard city county.

PALM AND BANANA TREES IN DUOMO SQUARE

People walking throw Duomo square, will be able to enjoy palm and banana trees and interchanged blossoming during seasons. In particular, as we can read in municipality’s note, in the west square’s area ”will be planted palm’s lines (botanical name Trachycarpus fortunei) fastened to the ground with a specific anchoring system (Tutor Sikur System), interchanging with the banana (Musa ensete) ones, creating a showy game of evergreen big leafs’ vegetation. We’ll plant shrubs, grass family and perennial plans with alternate flowerings during seasons in pink various’ shades: during spring we’ll have a begonia’s carpet, in summer big hydrangea’s flowers in ‘Vanilla Fraise’ variety and hibiscus, in autumn the blooms of giant Chinese canes (Miscanthus floridulus). A dark gravel’s carpet, lastly, will intensify, for contrast, the green system, that will be irrigated by an automatic system”.

Architect Marco Bay is the project’s author

The project idea belongs to architect Marco Bay from Milano. He already realized, always in Milano, the garden for Hangar Bicocca museum and the green areas For Deutshe Bank in Bicocca zone and “Serenissima” in via Turati. Since this week the sponsor will start managing the 24 carpini and 9 clerodendrum actually in the flowerbeds, that will be located in other city’s areas stated by the administrative offices: between Salomone street and Galli park, and between Gonini and Giordani streets. This operation will lasts about one month, after this interval we’ll plant palms, bananas and pink undergrowth.

The project, suitable considered by Authorities – underlines in a note Green assessor Pierfrancesco Maranshows how this kinds of partnership between public and private are fruitful to find solutions to make more and more beautiful and well finished city’s green spaces. The evergreen plants will give an exotic touch to the square, while the currently present trees will be planted again in other Milano’s areas.
