To aim at bus electrifications by means of salt batteries which have a lower impact on the environment. This is the driving force carried out by Google in cooperation with California Energy Commission in Mountain View, California.
The sodium-nikel batteries produced by Italian FIAMM SoNick are mounted on the buses of the Californian vehicle part. They are equipped with the chassis Ford E-450, the body work Ameritrans 285 and the control system ePCS created by automobile company Motiv. It is a valuable alternative to the traditional lead storage which ensures different advantages: recyclability, energy saving, resistance to temperature changes, a high cycle level and long life.
The technology, already in place in the rest of the world, has enabled the electrically driven van New Daily Iveco to win the award of the Van of the Year 2015.
